F451 Motif Project Due May 7th

Fahrenheit 451 Motif Project

This project will count as a MAJOR GRADE.

DUE Date is May 7th

A motif is an image, word, theme, object, phrase, or action that is repeated throughout a work of literature and acts to unify the work.

Choose one motif from the Fahrenheit 451: emptiness, detachment, “Hands”, rebellion, conformity, censorship, fire, paradox, responsibility.

Use a full sized piece of poster board.

Put the name of your motif on the poster board in BOLD letters so that it is easily seen.

On the poster board write every quotation from the novel that you can find that emphasizes your motif. Write every quote word for word  and the page number.  You must have at least 12 quotes that reference your motif to potentially earn a passing grade.  Each part of the book must be represented.

Find and paste magazine or computer pictures that emphasize your motif or draw the pictures if you can do so neatly, using both color and texture. Decorate your poster in other ways so that it has a personality reflecting your motif.

Arrange quotations and pictures in an aesthetically pleasing manner. In other words, make it something that you would be proud to have displayed on the wall.

Your name must be on the back of the poster.

100 Word Poem- Reg. English II

Wednesday, April 14th

April is poetry month! Let's write a poem!

The Winner:  A Poem!

Readers of Parade, a magazine which is included in the Sunday edition of many newspapers around the country, were asked to write a 100-word paragraph with words of only one syllable but without repeating any words.

The following is the favorite entry:

                  I love carbs, but they don’t like me;

                  Look at my thighs, so all can see—

                  A curse that comes from too much pie,

                  Snack cakes, sweet tea, ham on rye.

                  Go to gym four times per week,

                  Dance class twice, stay with beat,

                  Bend knees, side step, back once more,

                  Hang tough, fall down, hit the floor.

                  Jump rope, bike hard, swim ten laps,

                  Push up, pull back, walk real fast.

                  Lean, mean shape and abs of steel,

                  Less food in, needs good strong will.

                  Now, for you, this tale is done;

                  Look out, bake shop, here we come!

                                             --Pam Capps, Celebration, Florida

ž1. As Mildred watches television, Montag tries to get her to discuss their relationship.  When it (the television show) was over he felt like a man who had been thrown from a cliff,  whirled in a centrifuge, and spat out over a waterfall that fell and fell into emptiness…..

ž3.  “But remember that the Captain belongs to the most dangerous enemy to truth and freedom, the solid unmoving cattle of the majority.  Oh God, the terrible  tyranny of the majority.”
ž4.  “Would you like to go to that house that burnt last night? And rake ashes for the bones of the woman who set fire to her own house! What about Clarisse McClellan, where do we look for her? The morgue! Listen!
ž5.  “Nobody listens any more.  I can’t talk to walls because they’re yelling at me.  I can’t talk to my wife; she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to say And maybe if I talk long enough, it’ll make sense. And I want you to teach me to understand what  I read.”
ž6. “Jesus God,” said Montag. “Every hour so many damn things in the sky! How in the hell did those bombers get up there every single second of our lives! Why doesn’t someone want to talk about it! We’ve started and won two atomic wars since 1990! Is it because we’re having so much fun at home we’ve forgotten the world?  Is it because we’re so rich and the rest of the world’s so poor and we just don’t care if they are?  I’ve heard rumors; the world is starving, but we’re well fed.  Is it true, the world works hard and we play?  Is that why we’re hated so much?
